Throughout the videos and the reading I kept coming back to the same conclusion. The conclusion that relationships are a significant part of being a teacher. Dalton Sherman asked multiple times "Do you believe in me?" - Our students not only need us to believe in them they need to know that we believe in them. Sometimes as educators we are the last ones to give up on a child. We are the last ones to inspire them to be a contributing citizen and to not fear working the jobs that haven't been created yet.
Adora Svitak put it into perspective once again the power of one child can have when someone believes in them and when they are given the right tools. The book makes it clear that we as a country and a state as falling behind by denying our students the funds and the resources to succeed. It would be wonderful to be able to provide every child with a device so that they are equipped for success, but since that isn't the case we as teachers need to make sure that every child is able to access the curriculum.

I like your comments overall, especially the point you raised about jobs that have not been created yet. This is critical for our students to understand, in particular since they are often made to feel insecure around differences. I cannot think of a case in particular, but my understanding from studying history is that there have been people mocked or teased for having different ideas that were later highly acclaimed. Students need to be encouraged to be creative and in cases where teachers do not agree, or find it impossible, it is advisable they do not crush their spirit because again, there have been things throughout history that have been considered impossible, yet they end up coming into being.

I agree with your comment on how the United States and our state is falling behind by denying our student the funds and the resources to succeed. Especially in the book, The Flat World, where it states in chapter five "Although California's image is a high-technology, future-oriented, culturally diverse state, it is, by any measure, rapidly throwing its assets by underfunding and mismanaging its schools." Doesn't this just get you mad!? If this fact wasn't so true I would of said this was just "fake news", but it is not.

I agree with you that a common theme in all that we look at is the idea of building relationships with students. What you mentioned about not only believing in them, but they must know that we believe in them is so powerful. I think this really goes back to Ken Robinson states in his video "Bring on the Learning Revolution", we need to personalize education. Building relationships and getting to know our students will allow us to be more impactful as we personalize our curriculum and design experiences in our classes.
